The summer wheelbarrow festival in Verschneid, on the Tschögglberg plateau
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Schubkarren Gaudi is the summer festival that brings the village of Verschneid/Frassineto to life every year. Located in the municipality of Meltina/Mölten, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige, the name translates to 'wheelbarrow fun.' It perfectly captures the playful, grassroots spirit of an evening designed for socializing and enjoying the outdoors among the meadows of the Tschögglberg plateau.
The event is hosted by the Südtiroler Bauernjugend Ortsgruppe Mölten, the local branch of the South Tyrolean Young Farmers' Association. As the largest youth organization in South Tyrol, it keeps rural traditions alive through festivals, local initiatives, and community activities. In Meltina, this commitment translates into an evening that brings together both local generations and visitors from nearby farms.
The festival venue is the Festplatz Schnappboden, the event grounds of Verschneid, set on the plateau stretching between Bolzano and Merano, on the western slopes of the Sarntal Alps. It is a scenic, lush location, perfect for a convivial summer evening.
The Schubkarren Gaudi follows a tried-and-tested formula: it kicks off in the late afternoon with the opening of food stalls, where you can enjoy South Tyrolean farmhouse dishes accompanied by beer and drinks. As night falls, the event turns into an aftershow party with a DJ, keeping guests dancing until late. The fun, music, and informal vibe make this one of the most beloved summer nights in the area.
More than just an entertainment event, the Schubkarren Gaudi is a gathering point for the community of Meltina/Mölten and neighboring villages. It perfectly embodies the spirit of South Tyrolean summer festivals, where volunteer associations and youth groups organize self-funded evenings that blend tradition, gastronomy, and joy. For those visiting the Tschögglberg in summer, it is an authentic opportunity to experience South Tyrolean village life.
The 2026 edition of the Schubkarren Gaudi is expected in August at the Festplatz Schnappboden in Verschneid/Frassineto, in the municipality of Meltina/Mölten (province of Bolzano). As of the writing of this page, the Südtiroler Bauernjugend Ortsgruppe Mölten has not yet published the official date or the detailed program for 2026. In line with past editions, the festival is expected to maintain its proven formula: opening in the late afternoon with food stalls and bar service, followed by an aftershow party with a DJ. For the final date, please consult the Bauernjugend social media channels and the Meltina/Mölten tourist office.
Meltina/Mölten is located about 12 km northwest of Bolzano on the Tschögglberg plateau. By car, take the Bolzano Sud exit (A22) and follow signs for Meltina; the village of Verschneid/Frassineto is signposted just before reaching the town center. Alternatively, there is a connection from the Bolzano train station via the San Genesio cable car and local buses heading to the plateau.
Admission to the festival is free. Food stalls and a bar service are available on-site. We recommend wearing clothing suitable for cool mountain evenings.
