About Andreasmarkt Schlanders

The Andreasmarkt, or St. Andrew's Market, is a traditional late-November event in Schlanders/Silandro, in the heart of the Vinschgau Valley. Stalls featuring local farm products, South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties, and musical entertainment bring the pedestrian area around Stainerplatz to life. Less famous than other markets in the valley but equally charming, the Andreasmarkt is named after Saint Andrew, celebrated on November 30th, and continues a centuries-old tradition of markets and fairs in the Vinschgau.

The Andreasmarkt in Schlanders

The Andreasmarkt, or St. Andrew's Market, is a traditional annual market held in late November in Schlanders/Silandro, the main town of the Vinschgau (Val Venosta) in the autonomous province of Bolzano/Bozen, South Tyrol. The market takes its name from Saint Andrew, the apostle whose feast day falls on November 30th, the date around which this event has historically been held.

A farmers' market in the heart of the Vinschgau

The Andreasmarkt enlivens the pedestrian zone of Schlanders, around Stainerplatz and in the immediate vicinity of the historic center. The stalls offer typical products from South Tyrolean mountain farms: fruit jams, alpine cheeses, herbal teas and mountain herbs, homemade bread, speck, and smoked meats, as well as textiles and leather goods. The atmosphere is enhanced by musical entertainment, making the day a true social occasion for the entire valley community.

A centuries-old market tradition

Public markets in the Vinschgau boast an unbroken tradition spanning centuries. Since the time of Claudia de' Medici, large markets and traditional fairs were held on recurring days of the year and served as important social hubs for the entire valley. The Andreasmarkt fits into this historical calendar alongside events like the weekly Thursday market and the farmers' market (from April to October) held on Stainerplatz and in Plawenn Park.

Less known but equally charming

Compared to other more famous markets in the valley, the Andreasmarkt is less known to large tourist crowds, which is precisely why it retains an authentic and intimate character. It is an ideal opportunity to discover the flavors and craftsmanship of the Municipality of Schlanders and the Trentino-South Tyrol region in a late autumn atmosphere, as the Vinschgau prepares for the Advent season and Christmas markets.

When it takes place

The Andreasmarkt is traditionally held in late November, often near the last Thursday of the month. The exact dates are confirmed year by year by the Schlanders-Laas Tourist Association; it is recommended to check them before planning your visit.
