An extraordinary Carnival at the Reggia di Venaria
During the Carnival season, the Reggia di Venaria—a Baroque masterpiece in the Metropolitan City of Turin—comes alive with "Scherzo — Carnival Adventures", an interactive theatrical event that has quickly captured the hearts of the Piedmontese public. Here, a tour of the royal residence's grand halls turns into pure entertainment: as you move from one gallery to the next, actors suddenly appear, drawing guests into a playful world of costumes, misunderstandings, and witty scenarios typical of the Carnival spirit.
When visitors become "spect-actors"
The heart of Scherzo lies in flipping the audience's role: those who enter the Reggia don't just watch a show from a seat, they become its protagonists. Surprise appearances, masks, and theatrical twists turn every room into a sprawling stage, as visitors find themselves spect-actors in an adventure that unfolds throughout the tour route. The initiative is co-produced with the Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani di Torino, one of Italy's leading institutions for youth theatre, ensuring artistic quality and a language suitable for the whole family.
An event for families and children
Scherzo is designed to be enjoyed by adults and children together. The theatrical performances repeat throughout the day, ensuring every visitor encounters the actors during their tour. Previous editions have been enriched by mask-making workshops inspired by the Reggia's decorations and special afternoon snacks at the Caffè degli Argenti, featuring hot chocolate and traditional Carnival bugie. It is an original way to discover or rediscover one of Piedmont's most visited monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside the other Savoy Residences.
Included in your ticket, no booking required
One of the strengths of Scherzo is its accessibility: the event is included in the Reggia admission ticket and requires no reservation. Simply visit on the scheduled days to stumble upon the scenes and characters of the theatrical game during your regular tour. It is the perfect opportunity to experience Carnival in a unique way, immersed in the Baroque magic of the Savoy residence just a few kilometres from Turin.

Scherzo 2026 — terza edizione
Dal 14 al 17 febbraio 2026 la Reggia di Venaria ha ospitato la terza edizione di Scherzo — Avventure di Carnevale. Durante le quattro giornate, un gioco teatrale ha coinvolto i visitatori nelle diverse sale del palazzo, trasformando la visita in un'esperienza di puro divertimento tra apparizioni inattese, maschere e gag carnevalesche.
Le repliche del gioco si sono susseguite più volte nel corso di ciascuna giornata, così che ogni visitatore potesse incontrare attori e personaggi lungo il proprio percorso. Realizzato in coproduzione con la Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani di Torino, l'evento era compreso nel biglietto d'ingresso alla Reggia, senza necessità di prenotazione.

Quattro giorni di gioco teatrale
L'edizione 2026 si è svolta da sabato 14 a martedì 17 febbraio. Il gioco teatrale partecipativo è stato riproposto a più ripetizioni nel corso delle quattro giornate, intercettando i visitatori durante la normale visita alle sale della Reggia.
- Format: attori che appaiono a sorpresa nei vari spazi del palazzo, coinvolgendo il pubblico in situazioni comiche e in un'avventura inattesa.
- Pubblico: i visitatori diventano spett-attori, protagonisti del gioco anziché semplici spettatori.
- Produzione: coproduzione con la Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani di Torino.
Lo spettacolo non prevedeva orari fissi di replica unica: le scene si ripetevano lungo l'arco della giornata, all'interno del percorso di visita.

Practical information — Scherzo
How to get there
By train: The SFM4, SFM6, and SFM7 metropolitan railway lines stop at the "Reggia di Venaria" station (Viale Roma), approximately 500 metres from the ticket office along Via Andrea Mensa.
By bus: The GTT Venaria Express shuttle connects Turin Porta Susa to the Reggia (€1.70 per ride on weekdays, €7 for a daily weekend pass); GTT lines 11, VE1, and 72 are also available.
By car: The Reggia is located about 10 km from the centre of Turin, with parking available nearby.
Tickets
Scherzo is included in the Reggia admission ticket, with no reservation required. Reggia + Gardens ticket €18 (reduced €8); "All in a Reggia" ticket (Piano Nobile, Gardens, and exhibitions) €25 (reduced €10); free admission for children under 6.
Tips
Check the extended opening hours during the event days and arrive early to enjoy multiple performances of the theatrical game along the tour route.
