A Carnival celebration featuring bigoi pasta with ragù and mulled wine in the village of Tenno
The Sbigolada and Mulled Wine Festival is one of the most deeply rooted and anticipated Carnival events in the Municipality of Tenno, in the heart of Garda Trentino, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every year, on the first Sunday of Lent, the village fills with masks, colors, and aromas, celebrating a popular festival that is rooted in local tradition and represents a moment of joy and conviviality for both adults and children.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is the free distribution of the famous bigoi — traditional homemade spaghetti — served with a rich meat sauce, accompanied by the essential vin brulè (the traditional Trentino mulled wine, served piping hot). The event takes place at the Tenno sports field, where volunteers and organizers prepare large portions offered to residents and visitors alike. It is the most convivial moment of the day: people gather around the tables, taste the food, and toast together, warmed by the mulled wine and the festive atmosphere.
In the afternoon, the festival comes to life with the masked parade that winds through the streets of the village: children, families, and masked groups create a cheerful procession that adds color to the hamlet. The combination of culinary tradition and the masked Carnival makes the Sbigolada a genuine and family-friendly event, quite different from the large city carnivals: here, the protagonist is the community of Tenno, with its welcoming spirit.
The festival takes place in Tenno, a municipality known for its stunning Lake Tenno, with its turquoise waters, and the nearby medieval village of Canale di Tenno, one of the most picturesque hamlets in Trentino, featuring stone houses, quiet alleys, and barrel-vaulted passages. The Tenno winter, with the Sbigolada and the Christmas markets of Canale, offers an authentic way to discover this corner of Garda Trentino away from the summer tourist season.
On February 14, 2026, Tenno celebrated the 40th edition of the Sbigolada and Mulled Wine Festival, an important milestone for this historic Carnival event in Garda Trentino. From 12:30 PM, at the sports field, the free distribution of bigoi with ragù and mulled wine began, while at 3:00 PM the masked parade set off along the village streets.
Organized by the Municipality of Tenno with free admission, the day combined Trentino gastronomic tradition with the joy of the masked Carnival, confirming the Sbigolada as one of the most cherished winter appointments for the Tenno community and visitors to the Alto Garda area.
Tenno can be reached by car from the SS45bis del Garda road by exiting at Riva del Garda and driving up towards Tenno (about 10 minutes from Lake Garda). The nearest train station is Rovereto, which is connected by bus lines to the Alto Garda area.
Free admission. The distribution of bigoi with ragù and mulled wine is free of charge.
