The golf tournament that kicks off the season at the Dolomiti Golf Club in Val di Non
The Sarnonico Municipality Trophy is a golf tournament that every year, in early April, opens the competitive season at the Dolomiti Golf Club in the municipality of Sarnonico, in the Upper Val di Non (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige). The event owes its name to the support of the Municipality of Sarnonico, the owner of the land where the course is located, and represents one of the most anticipated moments for golfers from Trentino and South Tyrol to resume their activity after the winter break.
The Dolomiti Golf Club is the only 18-hole course in Trentino, nestled at an altitude of approximately 950 meters over an area of about fifty hectares. The main course measures 3,143 meters with a par 73 (SSS 74) and is complemented by four executive holes. Wide fairways and carefully sculpted greens make it playable for everyone, while the scenery, framed by the Brenta Dolomites and the Maddalene chain, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains and the villages of the valley. The facility features a driving range, putting and chipping greens, a pro-shop, and a bar and restaurant with a large terrace.
The Trophy is played using a three-category Stableford format, with separate rankings awarding the best gross score, the best net scores in each category, as well as specific rankings for ladies and seniors. The competition typically attracts about sixty players, often favored by sunny spring days and a course maintained in excellent condition.
At the end of the round, the awards ceremony takes place, with winners of the various categories receiving clothing and equipment from leading golf brands. The day concludes with a complimentary dinner featuring typical local products, an occasion for conviviality that strengthens the bond between the club, its members, and the Sarnonico community.
More than just a competition, the Sarnonico Municipality Trophy is an event that combines sport and local identity: the support of the Municipality highlights the value of golf as a tourism driver for the Upper Val di Non, a destination appreciated as much for its sports facilities as for its hiking trails among orchards, forests, and Dolomite peaks.
