The parade of allegorical floats in the heart of Santena
The Santena Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the festive calendar of Santena, a town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Every year, during the Carnival season, the historic center dresses up in color and tradition to host the grand parade of allegorical floats and masquerades, the true beating heart of the festival. The main streets of the town turn into an open-air stage dedicated to families, children, and everyone who wants to join in costume.
The highlight of the day is the procession of allegorical floats, which travels through the city center amidst music, confetti, and cheer. The parade features local organized groups, including city schools and neighborhood districts, joined by floats from neighboring towns. Over the years, the event has attracted groups from centers such as Carmagnola, Nichelino, Piobesi, Poirino, Pralormo, Racconigi, Chieri, and Villafalletto, a sign of a Carnival capable of uniting the entire Chierese and Carmagnolese region.
The festival is more than just a parade: the Santena Carnival is also an opportunity for community gathering and conviviality. At the end of the procession, volunteers distribute hot tea and panzanelle, the traditional sweet fritters prepared by local groups, to be enjoyed together among friends and families. Marching bands and entertainment accompany the entire day, helping to create an atmosphere of shared joy.
The Santena Carnival is the result of the joint work of the Municipality of Santena and numerous local associations, from sports clubs to the Pro Loco, and volunteer groups. The event involves schools, districts, and associations every year in a great collective effort, making the Carnival a defining identity event for Santena and the entire Province of Turin.
The parade is traditionally held during the Carnival season, on a Saturday afternoon, along the streets of the historic center of Santena. It is a free event open to everyone, designed especially for families and children.
The 2026 Santena Carnival, now in its 48th edition, took place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, starting in the afternoon. The parade traveled through the center of Santena along Via Torino, Via Cavour, Via Amateis, Via Sambuy, and down to the lower part of Piazza Aimerito.
Ten organized groups with their allegorical floats took part: three from Santena (San Giuseppe school, Marco Polo school, and the Tetti Giro district) and seven from neighboring towns, including Carmagnola, Nichelino, Piobesi, Poirino, Pralormo, Racconigi, and Villafalletto. The procession was led by the Canonico Don Antonio Serra marching band. At the end, volunteers distributed hot tea and panzanelle.
Santena is located in the Metropolitan City of Turin and is easily accessible by car from the Turin ring road and the provincial roads towards Chieri and Carmagnola. The Santena train station is served by regional lines of the Turin Metropolitan Railway Service.
Admission to the parade is free. During the event, traffic changes and parking bans are expected along the parade route, with dedicated parking areas provided.
