The patronal feast in the village of San Vito di Montà, in the heart of the Roero region
In the heart of the Roero, among the hills covered in vineyards and hazelnut groves that define the landscape of the province of Cuneo, the municipality of Montà preserves a network of small villages that keep their traditions alive. Among these, the village of San Vito celebrates the San Vito Patronal Feast every year, an event that renews an ancient bond between the community and its patron saint.
Saint Vitus, a martyr venerated since early Christian times and traditionally celebrated on June 15th, gives his name to the village and serves as its patron. The festival focuses on the spiritual dimension: the highlight is the Holy Mass, followed by the solemn procession that travels through the village streets, accompanied by the residents and the popular devotion that has been passed down for generations in this small Roero center.
The celebration of San Vito is part of the broader calendar of the Pastoral Unit Festival of Montà, a week of religious and community events involving both the main town and its surrounding villages. It is in this context that the San Vito village experiences its most important day, gathering around the chapel dedicated to the saint.
Visiting Montà and the village of San Vito during the patronal feast means experiencing the authentic village life of the Roero, a land renowned for its wines, truffles, and famous panoramic trails. Montà is a starting point for the renowned Sentieri del Roero, one of the most appreciated hiking networks in Piedmont. The patronal feast is the ideal occasion for those wishing to discover the most genuine and traditional side of this corner of the Cuneo province.
Far from large mass events, the San Vito Patronal Feast retains the charm of Piedmontese village festivals: a few hundred people, a patron saint, a procession, and a sense of belonging to a community that recognizes itself in its own traditions. A precious little event that deserves to be known and respected in its quiet devotion.
