The patronal feast of Praso in the heart of the Chiese Valley
The San Pietro Festival is the patronal feast of Praso, a small village in the municipality of Valdaone, in the Chiese Valley (Giudicarie Valleys), in the province of Trento. The festival celebrates Saint Peter the Apostle, the community's patron saint, whose feast day falls on June 29th. Around this date, usually on the last weekend of June, the entire village gathers around its church and Piazza San Pietro to renew a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
Organized by the Pro Loco Praso, the festival intertwines religious and social dimensions. The central moment is the Solemn Holy Mass celebrated in the parish church, followed by a procession through the village streets accompanied by the brass band. As per custom, the celebrations are marked by the ancient campanò, the festive ringing of the bells that has always announced feast days in Praso.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is entrusted to the famous polentèr of Praso, masters of the potato polenta, which has been awarded as one of the best at the Chiese Valley Polenta Festival. During the festival days, the Pro Loco food stand offers traditional local dishes: potato polenta and carbonera, mountain cheese, cured meats, and Giudicarie specialties, all accompanied by the warm atmosphere of a mountain village that opens its doors to residents and visitors alike.
The festival evenings are enlivened by live music and dance nights with an orchestra, in a festive atmosphere that involves all ages. There is no shortage of moments dedicated to children, with entertainment and games, as well as initiatives that highlight the natural heritage of the valley, such as walks through the woods and local wood carvings.
The San Pietro Festival is one of the most cherished events in the summer calendar of Valdaone and the Chiese Valley. Immersed in the alpine landscape of Trentino-Alto Adige, among the Giudicarie mountains and just a short distance from the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park, the festival offers visitors a genuine glimpse of Trentino village life, made of folk traditions, spirituality, good food, and sincere hospitality.
The 2026 edition, held over the weekend of June 27-28, confirmed the great appeal of the patronal feast of Praso, a village in Valdaone. The local newspaper, Quotidiano delle Tre Valli, reported the "great success" of the festival, with the community gathered in Piazza San Pietro to taste and celebrate according to the usual customs.
The heart of the day was the Holy Mass with a procession accompanied by the band, followed by social moments organized by the Pro Loco Praso. On the menu were traditional dishes: the award-winning potato polenta and the carbonera of the polentèr of Praso, mackerel and cheeses, with the bar stand always well-stocked. In the evening, there was music and dancing with an orchestra, along with entertainment for families and children and initiatives dedicated to the local area.
