The historic fair held on the second Monday of May in the heart of Pianezza
The San Pancrazio Fair is one of the oldest and most cherished events in Pianezza, a town on the western outskirts of Turin, in Piedmont. Its origins date back to the 17th century, when the display of goods and merchandise grew alongside devotion to the patron saint; it was customary for people to attend liturgical services and, for many pilgrims arriving from afar, to camp near the sanctuary dedicated to San Pancrazio. Since then, the fair has traditionally been held on the second Monday of May, coinciding with the patronal feast.
The event is so renowned that it was immortalized in a famous painting by the artist Pietro Domenico Olivero, created in 1724 for Victor Amadeus II of Savoy for the Castle of Rivoli and now housed at Palazzo Madama in Turin. A precious document that testifies to how much of a major draw the fair was for the entire region even back then.
For an entire day, Viale San Pancrazio, Via Musinè, Via San Gabriele, and Via Levante are filled with stalls and attractions. Visitors can stroll through:
The San Pancrazio Fair is much more than a market: it is a meeting point for the residents of Pianezza and neighboring towns, a moment when the city comes together to celebrate its identity. Attendance is particularly high during the middle of the morning, when families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts fill the streets of the center. Organized by the Municipality of Pianezza, the event also serves as an important showcase for local commerce and craftsmanship, supporting the regional economy while keeping a deep bond with tradition alive.
