The patronal feast of Rosta, blending faith, tradition, and conviviality in the Susa Valley
The Patronal Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel is the most cherished event of the year for Rosta, a town in the western belt of Turin, Piedmont, nestled on the morainic hills at the entrance to the Susa Valley. The recurrence is linked to the figure of Saint Michael the Archangel, the town's patron, and revolves around the traditional date of September 29th, when the community renews the bond between faith, territory, and local identity.
Rosta gained its autonomy in 1694 after centuries as a hamlet of Rivoli, and since then, the parish church of Saint Michael the Archangel, built between the 18th and 19th centuries, has become the main religious landmark of the town. The patronal feast is deeply rooted in this long communal history: the religious core remains the solemn Mass in honor of the patron, often celebrated on the Sunday closest to September 29th, a moment of reflection for the entire citizenry.
Alongside the religious dimension, the Pro Loco of Rosta, in collaboration with the Municipality and local sports associations, organizes several days of gastronomic and recreational appointments, concentrated mainly at the Via Ponata sports facilities and the Palawave. Among the events that have enlivened the festival for years are:
During the festival days, the center of Rosta also hosts the Saint Michael Festival, sponsored by the Municipality, with dozens of stalls set up along Via Stazione: typical Italian products, regional specialties, and street food offerings transform the town streets into a culinary journey, enlivened by music and social gatherings.
The Patronal Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel is a true Piedmontese village festival: an opportunity to rediscover the traditions of the Rosta community, taste local cuisine, and experience the convivial atmosphere that characterizes patronal celebrations in the province of Turin, just a few kilometers from the regional capital and the gateway to the Susa Valley.
The 2026 Patronal Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel in Rosta will be held around September 29th, the date of the town's patron saint. The parish of Saint Michael the Archangel will celebrate the solemn Mass, while the Pro Loco of Rosta, together with the Municipality and local associations, will enliven the town with the events that have characterized the festival for years: reservation-only dinners, a funfair, barbecues, and the Saint Michael's Lunch at the Via Ponata sports facilities, as well as the Saint Michael Festival stalls featuring local products and street food along Via Stazione.
The complete official program for the 2026 edition, with precise dates for individual events, times, and booking information, will be announced by the Pro Loco and the parish in the weeks preceding the festival.
Rosta is located about 18 km west of Turin, at the entrance to the Susa Valley. By car, it is easily accessible via the SP24 provincial road and the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway. By train, the Rosta railway station is served by the Turin-Modane line (SFM).
The gastronomic and recreational events organized by the Pro Loco are held mainly at the Via Ponata sports facilities and the Palawave. The Saint Michael Festival with its market stalls is located along Via Stazione. Religious celebrations take place in the parish church of Saint Michael the Archangel, in Piazza San Michele.
Dinners and lunches organized by the Pro Loco are generally by reservation: it is advisable to inquire in advance with the Rosta Pro Loco or the parish. Admission to the stalls and the funfair is free.
