The historic late-summer fair and cattle show in the Val di Non, Romeno
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Bartolomeo Fair is one of the most anticipated summer events in Romeno, a village in the upper Val di Non, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige region). Linked to the feast of the patron saint, San Bartolomeo, celebrated on August 24th, the event is rooted in a long agricultural tradition. It retains the authentic character of a village fair, with the streets and squares around the parish church bustling with dozens of stalls throughout the day.
The heart of the day is the Cattle Show, held at Parco di Alice from the early morning. Farmers from the Val di Non present their Brown Swiss and Holstein cows and heifers to the public and a panel of experts. Typically, around fifty animals are judged, and at the end of the parade, the jury crowns the show's queen, awarding the winning farmer with a large, characteristic collar and a bronze cowbell. Alongside the cattle, there are also small barnyard animals, creating a true showcase of local livestock farming.
The fair has always been a moment of celebration and a meeting point for farmers, providing an opportunity to reflect on the livestock season in a valley that boasts thousands of hectares of alpine pastures and numerous mountain dairies. It is no coincidence that the iconic product of the territory is Trentingrana, the hard cheese born from the milk of these mountains.
The San Bartolomeo Fair is the perfect occasion to visit Romeno and its plateau, nestled in the pre-alpine landscape of the Val di Non, among orchards, forests, and pastures. Admission to the event is free, and it is suitable for everyone, from families with children to enthusiasts of rural traditions and typical Trentino products.
The 2026 edition of the San Bartolomeo Fair and Cattle Show in Romeno is scheduled for the traditional period at the end of August, around the feast of the patron saint. The official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Romeno.
As per tradition, the day will include the Cattle Show at Parco di Alice, with the parade of Brown Swiss and Holstein cows and heifers and the crowning of the show's queen, accompanied by the market in the village center, the small animal exhibit, and the rural lunch with polenta, luganega sausage, and Trentingrana. For confirmation of dates and the program, it is recommended to check the channels of the Municipality of Romeno.
