The excellences of traditional Aosta Valley craftsmanship on display at the Fort of Bard
The Fort of Bard hosts The Summit of Traditional Aosta Valley Crafts every autumn, an exhibition that gathers the award-winning works from the Traditional Craftsmanship Exhibition-Competition held in the summer in Aosta. It is the highest showcase — the «sommet», the summit — of a heritage of manual skills that profoundly characterizes the identity of the Aosta Valley.
The exhibited works span various sectors of traditional Aosta Valley craftsmanship: wood carving and sculpture, turning, agricultural objects, wicker basketry, wooden flowers, leather working, wrought iron, stone, toys, furniture, traditional costumes, period footwear, and copper objects. Each piece testifies to a technique and a history, the result of the work of artisans who preserve ancient gestures.
Set up in the exhibition spaces of the fortress — in the past also in the former military chapel — the exhibition has free admission and represents a precious opportunity to get to know Aosta Valley «savoir-faire» up close. In the evocative setting of the Municipality of Bard and its Fort, visitors can discover how traditional craftsmanship remains a fundamental identity element of Aosta Valley alpine culture to this day.
The 11th edition of The Summit of Traditional Aosta Valley Crafts is scheduled for Autumn 2026 at the Fort of Bard. The exhibition will showcase the award-winning works from the Traditional Craftsmanship Exhibition-Competition held in Aosta, featuring wood sculptures, leather goods, wrought iron, copper, wicker, traditional costumes, and footwear. The precise dates and times will be announced by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed dates for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Fort of Bard. The exhibition, with free admission, will present in the fortress's exhibition spaces the winning works from the Aosta Valley Traditional Craftsmanship Exhibition-Competition held in Aosta, divided by sector: wood carving and sculpture, turning, basketry, leather working, wrought iron, stone, copper, traditional costumes, and footwear.
By car: A5 motorway, Pont-Saint-Martin or Verrès exit, then SS26 state road to Bard. The Fort has parking and panoramic elevators.
The exhibition is free admission, set up in the exhibition spaces of the Fort of Bard. For hours and information: +39 0125 833811, [email protected].
