The Saint Joseph Patronal Festival in Monasterolo di Savigliano, twenty days after Easter
The Saint Joseph Festival is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Monasterolo di Savigliano, a small town in the Province of Cuneo nestled in the Saluzzo plains of Piedmont. Also known as the Saint Joseph Patronal Festival, it is celebrated every year twenty days after Easter, following a custom that has linked the liturgical calendar to the community's life for generations. It is precisely this blend of devotion and conviviality that makes the festival so special to the locals, who remain very attached to it.
The charm of the festival lies in its balance: on one hand, the religious dimension, with mass in the chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph, the blessing of children and families, and the traditional balloon release; on the other, the more convivial side, featuring community dinners, live music, DJ sets, traditional games, and competitions that enliven the town for five consecutive days. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense, where people gather around the table and in the square.
All activities are concentrated in the festival pavilion set up at the Piazza Castello sports field: this is where dinners, musical evenings, and gastronomic events take place, from mixed grills to pork neck dinners, and the final lunch featuring boiled meats and risotto. There is also a beer festival and the famous Saint Joseph Patronal lottery, which offers highly anticipated prizes, first and foremost a travel voucher.
The festival is organized by the rectors and the local committee, with the invaluable support of the Pro Loco of Monasterolo di Savigliano and the participation of the entire community. It is a perfect example of how, in small Piedmontese towns, traditions are passed down thanks to the commitment of volunteers who, every year, organize an event capable of attracting visitors from the neighboring towns of the Cuneo plains.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Joseph Festival in Monasterolo di Savigliano was held from April 23 to 27, confirming the five-day formula blending the sacred and the secular. Organized by rectors Samuele Astegiano and Luca Boglione with the support of the community, the festival enlivened the Piazza Castello festival pavilion with gastronomic, musical, and traditional events, culminating in the mass and the lottery draw.
