Three days of music, tradition, and the San Girolamo bonfire in the village of Radicondoli
In the heart of the Val di Cecina and Val d'Elsa hills, the small village of Radicondoli, in the province of Siena, dedicates one of the most heartfelt festivals of the year to its patron saint, Saint John the Baptist. For three days, around the summer solstice, the town squares fill with music, scents, and voices: a popular festival that, as Mayor Francesco Guaguaglini recalls, "goes deep into our culture and our roots."
The program, curated by the Pro Loco Radicondoli, alternates performances, gastronomy, and crafts. It opens with a performance by the Odisseo 2001 dance school and the opening of the Pro Loco stalls with a bar, sandwiches, and fried food, before giving way to live concerts. Taking the stage in Piazza Matteotti are the rock and blues of the Gran Riserva Power Trio, the Carpe Diem Live Band with their repertoire of great Italian songwriters, and the folk energy of I Matti Delle Giuncaie.
During the days, the village hosts an artisan market along Via Gazzei and the central streets, while in Piazza 4 Novembre, the festival's restaurant and grill house come to life, serving traditional Tuscan dishes. It is the perfect opportunity to discover local products and the hospitality of a village that preserves the charm of the Sienese hills.
The most anticipated moment is the grand finale on Sunday: in the evening, a fire show accompanied by the Alfieri e Musici della Valmarina precedes the lighting of the great bonfire at San Girolamo. This is the renewal of an ancient custom linked to the night of Saint John, when propitiatory fires were lit on the hilltops: a symbolic and evocative ritual that closes the festival in the spirit of tradition.
Visiting Radicondoli during the Saint John's Festival means immersing yourself in the authenticity of the most hidden Tuscany, far from the most crowded tourist routes, among geothermal energy, forests, and rural landscapes. An opportunity to experience a community event where tradition, music, and gastronomy blend into a familiar and welcoming atmosphere.
The 2026 Saint John's Festival brings Radicondoli to life from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, with a program organized by the Pro Loco that weaves together music, gastronomy, and tradition in the squares of the Sienese village.
Among the live concerts in Piazza Matteotti, highlights include the Gran Riserva Power Trio (Friday) with their mix of rock and blues, the Carpe Diem Live Band dedicated to great Italian songwriters, and I Matti Delle Giuncaie (Saturday). During the days, there is space for the artisan market, the restaurant, and the grill house in Piazza 4 Novembre. The Sunday finale is entrusted to the Alfieri e Musici della Valmarina, with a fire show and the lighting of the traditional bonfire at San Girolamo.
Radicondoli is located in the Sienese hinterland. By car, take the SS68 (Colle di Val d'Elsa) or the SS73 and follow the signs for Radicondoli. The nearest train station is in Colle di Val d'Elsa / Poggibonsi, from where you can continue by car.
Admission to the event is free. The events take place mainly in Piazza Matteotti and Piazza 4 Novembre, with the artisan market along the streets of the center. The final bonfire is scheduled for Sunday evening at San Girolamo.
