The patronal feast of the Mandria hamlet, blending faith, vintage tractors, and Piedmontese cuisine
In the heart of the plains between Chivasso and the Po River, the Mandria hamlet preserves one of the most cherished patronal feasts in the region: the Saint Eligius Feast. Recognized as the protector of the ancient agricultural estate, Saint Eligius has been celebrated here for over two hundred years, always on the third weekend of May, within the central courtyard of the historic Tenuta della Mandria. It is one of those village festivals where religious devotion and rural life intertwine naturally, reflecting the farming soul of this corner of Piedmont.
Organized by the Pro Mandria association with the patronage of the City of Chivasso (Province of Turin), the event spans four days. It opens with Holy Mass in honor of the patron saint and continues with a packed calendar of gastronomic evenings, musical entertainment, and agricultural-themed exhibitions. The common thread is the celebration of rural culture: from the "Back to the Past" vintage tractor display to the spectacular "Speed Pulling" competition, the festival pays homage to the field work that shaped the history of this hamlet.
The food pavilion features great traditional classics: the Spit-Roasted Ox Evening, Grilled Specialties, and the highly anticipated Paella Evening, accompanied by Piedmontese delicacies such as anchovies in green sauce, cured meats, and fried tomini cheese. The program also includes the Tractor Driver's Lunch open to everyone, dance evenings with orchestras, the "en Plein Air" painting competition, and the election of the traditional "Miss Mandria" and "Miss Forestiera". An authentic, family-friendly festival where conviviality takes center stage.
The Saint Eligius Feast is much more than just a food festival: it is a time when the Mandria community reunites and welcomes visitors from the surroundings of Chivasso and the entire Turin metropolitan area. Between free guided tours of the estate, the aroma of the grill, and the roar of historic tractors, the event offers a genuine glimpse into Piedmontese hamlet life, where farming roots are still alive and proudly celebrated.
The 2026 edition, organized by Pro Mandria with the patronage of the City of Chivasso, brought four days of popular festivities back to the Tenuta della Mandria. Among the most anticipated moments were the "Grand Spit-Roasted Ox Evening", the dance show by Alien Cut, the "Back to the Past" vintage tractor and agricultural machinery exhibition, and the Speed Pulling competition. Sunday concluded with the Paella Evening, the "Giuliano e i Baroni" orchestra, and the election of Miss Mandria.
