Barbecued beef in the mountains of Frosolone
Among the many sagre (food festivals) that liven up August in Frosolone (province of Isernia, Molise), the Sagra della Vacca Argentina is dedicated to beef cooked in the Argentine asado tradition. The event takes place in Colle dell'Orso, the panoramic plateau at the foot of the Frosolone mountains, in a cool and evocative mountain setting even in the height of summer.
The star is the beef, prepared on large grills by expert chefs who carefully manage cooking and timing in the Argentine style. The sagra thus offers a generous and convivial dish, served outdoors and accompanied by local side dishes and wines.
The Sagra della Vacca Argentina is part of Frosolone's very rich summer calendar, which in August alternates craft events (the Festa della Forgiatura, the Coltelli Market Exhibition) and numerous gastronomic sagre. An entire month in which the Isernia village comes alive with festivals, traditions, and good food.
The Sagra della Vacca Argentina 2026 takes place in Colle dell'Orso, the plateau above Frosolone (IS), during the usual early August window. This year again, beef will be cooked on large grills by expert chefs in the Argentine tradition, in a mountain setting and as part of the village's busy summer sagre calendar.
The precise date and times for 2026 will be announced by the Pro Loco of Frosolone in the weeks prior.
Colle dell'Orso is located on the plateau above Frosolone (IS), reachable by car from the town center. The nearest train station is Isernia. A car is recommended to reach the festival area.
The sagra is traditionally held in the first half of August (around August 11th).
Free access to the area; food and drinks to be paid for at the stands.
