The tortuccia, a taste of peasant tradition

The Sagra della Tortuccia in Castel Giorgio, a town in the Orvieto area of the province of Terni, is dedicated to a typical dish of Umbrian peasant cuisine: the tortuccia, a fried flatbread made from bread dough, offered in sweet and savory versions, and sometimes filled. A simple and genuine food, which tells the gastronomic history of the territory and which during the festival becomes the absolute star of the table.

Piazza Anne Frank, heart of the festival

Piazza Anne Frank is the heart of the event: every evening food stalls are set up, where you can taste the tortuccia and other local traditional dishes. The festival offers a journey through the authentic flavors of Castel Giorgio, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.

Music and conviviality

Alongside the gastronomy, the evenings are enlivened by music and entertainment, which make the Sagra della Tortuccia an anticipated event of the Orvieto summer. Organized by the Comitato Sagra della Tortuccia ODV, the event enhances the identity of Castel Giorgio and its food and wine tradition, in one of the most authentic corners of southern Umbria.
