Polenta and game at the Fabiasco festival area, between taste and music
In the Fabiasco hamlet of Cugliate-Fabiasco, a municipality in the Mountain Community of Piambello in the province of Varese, summer ends with one of the most cherished gastronomic events in the area: the Sagra della Selvaggina, organized by the Comitato Feste Fabiasco at the Festival Area in via G. Pascoli. It generally takes place on the third weekend of August, over two days.
The absolute star is polenta, served with classic game dishes: roe deer, wild boar, deer, and donkey. The menu is completed by game ragù pasta and mixed grilled meats, in a hearty and traditional offering, designed for those seeking the authentic flavors of the Varese mountains. A covered pavilion ensures the festival can take place even in case of bad weather.
The festival is not just about food: Saturday dinner is accompanied by live music, while Sunday is dedicated to lunch. The atmosphere is that of convivial village festivals, suitable for all ages, where the community of Fabiasco welcomes visitors from all over the Piambello area and the lakes.
Cugliate-Fabiasco is located at over 500 meters above sea level, in a panoramic position between Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore, near the Swiss border. The Sagra della Selvaggina is an excellent opportunity to discover this corner of the Varese pre-Alps and its gastronomic traditions linked to the forest.
