Luino, capital of smiles
The Festival del Teatro e della Comicità Città di Luino is one of the most beloved cultural events in the province of Varese. For twenty years, it has enlivened Luino, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, with a programme that combines theatre, music, and authorial comedy, establishing the city as the "capital of smiles".
The twentieth edition, under the artistic direction of Francesco Pellicini, offers a rich programme of illustrious guests: lyricist Mogol, actors and comedians Cochi Ponzoni and Massimo Boldi, musician Giorgio Conte, writer Andrea Vitali, Max Pisu, and the Treves Blues Band, featuring shows, talks, and concerts. The events take place in the city's symbolic cultural venues, particularly Palazzo Verbania and Parco Ferrini.
Produced in co-production with the Festival dei Laghi Lombardi, the festival extends beyond Luino, involving the provinces of Varese, Milan, and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, with programming continuing into the autumn. Among the tributes to the region's cultural figures are poets Piero Chiara and Vittorio Sereni, artist Dario Fo, musician Carlo Donida, and champion Gigi Riva. An event that uses laughter as an occasion for culture and identity, supported by Regione Lombardia, Province of Varese, Municipality of Luino, and Fondazione Cariplo.
