Culture, music, and theatre on the lakes of Lombardy
The Festival dei Laghi Lombardi is a travelling cultural event that, from late spring to early autumn, brings theatre, music, comedy, concerts, and documentaries to the most picturesque locations on the lakes of Lombardy. Conceived and directed by Francesco Pellicini, originally from Luino, the festival begins in the town on Lake Maggiore, in the province of Varese.
The edition kicks off in Luino with a four-day opening, coinciding with and co-produced by the Festival del Teatro e della Comicità Città di Luino (Festival of Theatre and Comedy of the City of Luino), which celebrates its twentieth anniversary. From here, the festival extends to five Lombard provinces — Varese, Brescia, Bergamo, Lecco, and Sondrio — as well as the neighbouring territories of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and the Canton of Ticino.
The festival pays tribute to the great cultural figures linked to Luino and the lakes: the writer Piero Chiara, the playwright Dario Fo, the singer-songwriter and journalist Nanni Svampa, the poet Vittorio Sereni, the philosopher Giovanni Reale, and the champion Gigi Riva. On stage, prominent guests such as Mogol, Cochi Ponzoni, and Massimo Boldi alternate, in a programme that intertwines performance and memory, supported by Regione Lombardia and Fondazione Cariplo.
The 2026 edition of the Festival dei Laghi Lombardi, the ninth, takes place from May 30 to September 27, with the opening in Luino from June 4 to 7, in co-production with the Festival del Teatro e della Comicità Città di Luino. The festival, directed by Francesco Pellicini, offers 26 events including theatre, comedy, concerts, and documentaries, spanning the provinces of Varese, Brescia, Bergamo, Lecco, and Sondrio, as well as Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and the Canton of Ticino.
The festival continues until September 27 with stops in the five Lombard provinces and neighbouring territories, featuring theatre, comedy, music, and documentaries. The full programme is published on the official channels.
The festival opening takes place in Luino, reachable by train (Milan-Luino line) and by car, on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore. Subsequent stops involve various locations on the Lombard lakes.
Some events are free, others are ticketed; information and advance sales are available on the festival's official channels.
