In Cuveglio, the centre of Valcuvia in the province of Varese, summer has the robust flavour of polenta. The Sagra della Polenta, organised by the Pro Loco of Cuveglio, takes place in mid-July at the Baita Santa Maria, on via Battaglione San Martino, for three days of traditional cuisine and music.
Polenta in all its forms
The menu revolves around polenta, offered in many versions: with bruscitt (the typical Lombard beef stew), with beef stew and mushrooms, taragna, as well as variations with gorgonzola. Accompanying it are traditional main courses such as braised beef, roast, and braised veal shank with potatoes, and sandwiches with sausage or cured meats. Substantial cuisine, designed for summer evenings outdoors.
Music and engines
Every evening the festival is enlivened by live music with an orchestra. In recent years, the festival has also hosted a gathering of Mazda MX-5 cars, with an exhibition and test drives organised by a local club, a sign of an event that knows how to combine gastronomic tradition and entertainment for everyone.
Cuveglio and Valcuvia
Cuveglio is surrounded by the pre-Alpine reliefs of Valcuvia, between Campo dei Fiori and the mountains of Verbano. The Sagra della Polenta is an excellent opportunity to discover this corner of Lombardy and its mountain cuisine, in a familiar and welcoming setting.
Sagra della Polenta — edition 2026
The Sagra della Polenta 2026 in Cuveglio is expected, as per tradition, on the second weekend of July at the Baita Santa Maria. The Pro Loco will again offer the three days of festivities with a menu based on polenta in many variations, meat main courses, and live music every evening.

- Gastronomic stand with polenta with bruscitt, with beef stew and mushrooms, taragna, and with gorgonzola
- Traditional main courses: braised beef, roast, braised veal shank with potatoes; sandwiches with sausage or cured meats
- Live music with orchestra every evening
