In Pozzo, among the olive trees, the traditional sweet fritter and Umbrian cuisine dishes
Pozzo is a hamlet in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo, in the province of Perugia, nestled among the olive groves of Umbria del Sagrantino. Here, every July, the Sagra della Frittella, one of the most characteristic festivals in the Gualdo area, is renewed. The sweet fritter that gives the festival its name comes from a recipe passed down through generations, linked to the ancient peasant tradition of celebrating the end and abundance of the olive harvest with this dessert.
The food stalls offer fritters in various versions — with honey, orange cream, and other delicacies — alongside the great classics of Umbrian cuisine: gnocchi with goose ragù, strangozzi with truffles, wild boar, and sausages, to be paired with local wines. Every evening, the best orchestras take turns on stage for dancing evenings, involving young and old alike.
Now in its many editions, the Sagra della Frittella di Pozzo is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Umbria, with good food, music, and popular tradition, just a few kilometres from Montefalco and the Strada del Sagrantino.
The 44th edition of the Sagra della Frittella di Pozzo is scheduled for two weekends: from Friday July 3rd to Sunday 5th and from Thursday July 9th to Sunday 12th, 2026. The stars remain the sweet fritters prepared according to the traditional recipe, served in several variations, alongside Umbrian cuisine classics — gnocchi with goose ragù, strangozzi with truffles, wild boar, and sausages — and local wines. Every evening, you can dance to the music of the best orchestras.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition evenings will be published by the Pro Loco of Pozzo in the weeks preceding the festival. The established structure, on July 3-5 and 9-12, includes:
