The cherry festival in the hamlet of Capodacqua di Assisi
The Festa della Ciliegia is the festival that enlivens Capodacqua di Assisi every year, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Assisi (province of Perugia, in Umbria). The absolute protagonist is the local cherry, cultivated for generations in the area: a fruit around which the community has built a festival that has become a regular fixture at the start of summer.
For several evenings, the village is filled with food stalls offering traditional Umbrian dishes, naturally accompanied by local cherries. There are also shows, dance music, and entertainment, in an atmosphere of authentic village celebration. The organisation is entrusted to the Pro Loco of Capodacqua and numerous volunteers, who have kept this tradition alive for decades.
In addition to good food, the Festa della Ciliegia is an opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Assisi territory, far from the major tourist flows of the city of St. Francis. A genuine experience, made of country flavours and hospitality, that tells the rural and popular soul of Umbria.
The 39th edition of the Festa della Ciliegia will be held from 12 to 21 June 2026 in Capodacqua di Assisi. For ten evenings, the village will host food stalls with traditional Umbrian dishes and local cherries, alongside shows, dance music, and entertainment activities.
The event is organised by the Pro Loco of Capodacqua di Assisi with the contribution of the village volunteers.
Ten evenings of celebration in the village, with evening opening of the food stalls.
The detailed evening programme, with menus and events for each night, will be published by the Pro Loco of Capodacqua on their official channels closer to the festival.
Capodacqua is a hamlet in the Municipality of Assisi, south of the main town. It is reached by car via local roads connecting Assisi to the Capodacqua area. The reference train station is Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli.
The food stalls generally open in the evening. For the updated programme and evening events, it is advisable to follow the festival's social media channels and the Pro Loco of Capodacqua.
