The chestnut festival
In Buggio, a hamlet of the municipality of Pigna in the province of Imperia, the Sagra della Caldarrosta celebrates the symbolic fruit of the Ligurian autumn. The roasted chestnuts come from the historic chestnut groves of Val Nervia, which for centuries have been a fundamental resource for the economy and cuisine of these mountain villages.

The absolute protagonists are the caldarroste (roasted chestnuts), distributed and fragrant throughout the village streets, accompanied by traditional dishes and local products. The sagra is one of the most heartfelt in the Imperia hinterland and attracts visitors from all over the valley.

Buggio, with its narrow alleys (caruggi) and stone houses, is one of the most characteristic centres of the Ligurian Alps Regional Natural Park.
