The wine festival dedicated to Grottino di Roccanova DOC
In Roccanova, a village in the hinterland of the province of Potenza, wine has a history measured in centuries and caves. The Grottino di Roccanova DOC owes its name to the hundreds of cellars dug into the sandstone "tempe" beneath the town: galleries with constant temperature and humidity, some dating back to the 18th century, where the wine rests and matures. It is to this tradition that the Grottino Wine Story is dedicated.
The first edition, in August 2025, was a brilliant debut with around 2,000 participants, confirming the desire to showcase and promote this Lucanian excellence. The idea is for an experience that is both sensory and narrative, combining wine, tradition, culture, and landscape in a single day of celebration.
The Grottino Wine Story format alternates different moments: the morning is dedicated to visits to the cellars with journalists and wine communicators, the afternoon to masterclasses and a technical conference on the research and future of Grottino, while in the evening the historic centre comes alive with the tasting of wines paired with local typical products. A journey that allows you to discover Grottino in all its nuances, from the glass to the cellar.
Promoted by the Municipality of Roccanova with the support of local producers, the festival is also an opportunity to discover a village in the Lucanian hinterland and its extraordinary heritage of wine cellars. An ideal event for wine tourism enthusiasts seeking authentic experiences away from the most beaten tracks.
Given the excellent feedback from the first edition, the Grottino Wine Story aims to return to Roccanova in 2026, most likely in August. The planned format is the established one: visits to cellars dug into the sandstone, masterclasses, a technical conference on Grottino, and evening tastings in the historic centre, dedicated to Grottino di Roccanova DOC.
The precise dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced.
The detailed program will be announced in the coming weeks. Based on the format of the first edition, the following are expected:
How to get there: Roccanova can be reached by car from the SS598 Val d'Agri and from the provincial roads of the hinterland; the village is about an hour from Potenza.
Tickets: the evening event in the historic centre usually involves a tasting ticket; it is advisable to check the procedures and prices on the official channels.
Tip: take advantage of the visits to the cellars dug into the sandstone, the real peculiarity of Roccanova.
