The peasant dish of Lombard tradition in the village on Lake Endine
When the days get shorter and the first chills arrive, the village of Monasterolo del Castello, in the Province of Bergamo, rediscovers one of the most beloved dishes of Lombard peasant tradition. The Sagra del Bollito Misto is the November event that brings the community together around large steaming pots, on the shores of Lake Endine.
The absolute star is the bollito misto (mixed boiled meat), prepared according to the traditional recipe: cuts of beef, cotechino, tongue, and hen slow-cooked and served with typical sauces—from salsa verde to mostarda—accompanied by polenta, seasonal side dishes, and local wines. Tripe and other Lombard autumn specialties are also available, as well as artisanal desserts.
The festival is not just about gastronomy. Friday and Saturday evenings are enlivened by live music and DJ sets, while markets line the village streets during the day. On Sunday morning, there's space for the Agricultural Fair and Livestock Show, with entertainment and shows for all ages, recalling the rural roots of this corner of Val Cavallina.
Now in its eleventh edition, the Sagra del Bollito Misto has become one of the most anticipated events of the Bergamo autumn, attracting visitors from all over the province. It is the festival that best tells the identity of Monasterolo del Castello, a lakeside and mountain village where the table remains the primary place for gathering.
The Sagra del Bollito Misto returns to Monasterolo del Castello from Friday, November 7 to Sunday, November 9, 2026, with its eleventh edition. The star is the traditional peasant mixed boiled meat — beef, cotechino, tongue, hen — served with typical sauces, polenta, and local wines. The kitchen opens Friday and Saturday from 7:30 PM and Sunday also for lunch from 12:00 PM.
