The Palio of the contrade and the grape harvest tradition in Val Cavallina
The Festa dell'Uva e dell'Agricoltura Bergamasca, also known as the Palio di Trescore, is the major traditional event in Trescore Balneario, a municipality in the Val Cavallina, province of Bergamo. With over sixty years of history, the festival combines the celebration of the grape harvest and the agricultural world of Bergamo with historical reenactment and folklore, enlivening Piazza Cavour and the town's historic centre for three days.
The heart of the event is the Palio, where the nine contrade of Trescore compete: Breda, Canton, Caravicchi, Fornaci, Macina, Piazza, Riva, Strada, and Torre. The competition culminates in the grape harvest Palio and is accompanied by a grand historical parade with around five hundred costumed participants, retracing the history and traditions of Val Cavallina in a visually striking procession.
Alongside the reenactment, the festival offers guided tastings of local wines, markets, workshops, talks on the Bergamo terroirs, and folklore shows. There is also a walk through the vineyards and a grape fair, in a journey that celebrates the products and agricultural culture of the region. The event is part of the "I Sentieri del Gusto e della Tradizione in Val Cavallina" (The Paths of Taste and Tradition in Val Cavallina) project.
Organised by the Pro Loco of Trescore together with the Municipality and the Distretto del Commercio delle Torri, the Festa dell'Uva is an identity-defining event that mobilises the entire community, from the contrade to the participants, from the producers to the volunteers. It's an opportunity to discover Trescore Balneario and Val Cavallina during the most evocative time of the year, the grape harvest season.
The Festa dell'Uva e dell'Agricoltura Bergamasca returns to Trescore Balneario (Bergamo) in September 2026, with its 67th edition. The event confirms its tried-and-tested format: three days of reenactments, folklore, tastings, and events related to the grape harvest and the agricultural world of Val Cavallina.
Precise dates will be announced by the organisers closer to the event. The main events are confirmed: the historical parade with around 500 participants, the grape harvest Palio among the nine contrade (Breda, Canton, Caravicchi, Fornaci, Macina, Piazza, Riva, Strada, Torre), guided tastings of local wines, the walk through the vineyards, and the grape fair.
The detailed programme for the 67th edition will be published by the organisers closer to the event.
