Gorno, San Martino and the mine
Nestled in the Val del Riso, in the Province of Bergamo, the Municipality of Gorno is historically linked to mining activities, and this identity is also found in its patronal festival dedicated to San Martino (11 November). The festival, organised by the parish together with the village associations, intertwines the liturgical calendar with days of popular celebration at the Gorno Festival Area.
Wines and cheeses in the tunnel
The most distinctive element is the food and wine offering «Miniera tra vini e formaggi» (Mine between wines and cheeses): a tasting that takes place inside the tunnels of the Costa Jels mine, a suggestive setting that tells the mining past of Gorno. An experience that blends industrial heritage, peasant tradition, and conviviality.
Cuisine, music, and fireworks
During the festival days, the Festival Area opens its kitchen and cellar with dishes of the Bergamasco tradition. The evenings are enlivened by live music and tombola, while the fireworks display concludes the event. For the little ones, there are puppet shows, and for everyone, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts are offered on both days, a sign of the Orobic autumn. On Sunday, after mass, a procession crosses the village.
San Martino in Gorno is an authentic festival, capable of enhancing the mining heritage of the Val del Riso and bringing the community together around its roots.
San Martino Gorno — edition 2026
A new edition of the Festa di San Martino in Gorno is expected for 2026, around the patronal feast day of November 11th. As in previous years, the main days will be concentrated on the weekend, with the «Miniera tra vini e formaggi» tasting in the Costa Jels tunnels, the opening of the kitchen and cellar at the Festival Area, live music, tombola, and the final fireworks display.

Saturday
- 2:30 PM — «Miniera tra vini e formaggi»: tasting in the tunnels of the Costa Jels mine
- Evening — Opening of the kitchen and cellar at the Festival Area, live music, and tombola
Sunday
- Afternoon — Holy Mass and procession
- Puppet show
- Evening — Opening of the kitchen, music, and tombola
- Closing — Fireworks display
For both days: mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.
