The Misma Chestnut

In Pradalunga, a municipality in the province of Bergamo overlooking the Val Seriana, October is the month of the chestnut. Castanea — Culture and Flavours of the Chestnut is the event promoted by the Department of Culture together with the Misma Chestnut Growers Association, which enhances an ancient agricultural tradition linked to the chestnut groves of Mount Misma.

A Month-Long Calendar

Castanea is not a one-day event: it unfolds throughout the month of October with a packed calendar of events. It begins with the inauguration and Mass in the parish church of Saints Cristoforo and Vincenzo, followed by guided walks through the chestnut groves starting from the Sanctuary of Forcella, lunches based on chestnut products at the Oratory of Pradalunga, tasting evenings and moments of cultural deepening.

The Day in Piazza Mazzini

The highlight of the event is the big day in Piazza Mazzini, entirely dedicated to the culture and flavours of the chestnut: thematic exhibition, stands of typical products, roasted chestnuts of the best Misma varieties and traditional chestnut flour biscuits. A festival that attracts families and curious visitors from all over the Val Seriana.

Culture Beyond Flavour

Castanea also provides space for reflection, with a conference on chestnut cultivation dedicated to research and prospects for the sector, hosted in the municipal exhibition space. It is this blend of taste, landscape, and culture that makes the Pradalunga event, in Lombardy, a reference point for lovers of chestnuts and Orobie traditions.
