The Lenzone festival and the footrace in memory of Luigi Pinzan
In Lenzone, a hamlet of Ovaro in the heart of Carnia, one of the most cherished festivals in the Val Degano takes place: the Sagra dai Carmini, a traditional festival in honour of the Carmine church. Against the backdrop of Monte Zoncolan, the valley's iconic mountain, this event blends faith, conviviality, and sport.
The food stalls offer the great classics of Carnic cuisine: cjarsons (the sweet and savoury ravioli typical of Carnia), tripe, grilled meats, and crostoli. In the square, people dance and celebrate with live music and traditional Friulian folk dances.
The most anticipated moment is the mountain footrace in memory of Luigi Pinzan, a historic race that has surpassed its fiftieth edition and draws mountain running athletes and enthusiasts from all over the region, immersed in the landscapes of the Val Degano.
Organised by the Pro Loco of Ovaro, the Sagra dai Carmini is an event that encapsulates the spirit of Carnia: genuine cuisine, attachment to traditions, and passion for the mountains. A perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the most alpine part of Friuli.
For 2026, the Sagra dai Carmini returns to animate the hamlet of Lenzone, according to the traditional summer timing linked to the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The exact dates and the complete program have not yet been published at the time of writing: they will be communicated by the Pro Loco of Ovaro in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks on the official channels of the Pro Loco of Ovaro.
Based on previous editions, the following are expected: stalls with Carnic cuisine (cjarsons, tripe, grilled meats, crostoli); evenings of live music and folk dances in the square; the historic mountain footrace in memory of Luigi Pinzan, now in its fiftieth edition.
How to get there: Lenzone is a hamlet of Ovaro, in Carnia, reachable by ascending the Val Degano from Tolmezzo.
Admission: free; food from stalls is paid. Separate registration for the footrace.
When: traditionally in summer, around the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
