The patron saint's festival in the heart of Carnia
Comeglians, a village nestled in the Val Calda, in the heart of Carnia, celebrates its patron saint Saint Nicholas every year with a festival that intertwines religious, charitable, and popular traditions of the Friulian mountains. The occasion, linked to December 6th, is one of the community's most cherished events during the Advent season.
The religious aspect is represented by the Holy Mass in the small church of Saint Nicholas, traditionally dedicated to blood donors, highlighting the spirit of solidarity that characterizes the entire event. Numerous initiatives are indeed for charitable purposes, from the blood donation drive in the square to fundraising for the region's pediatric hospitals.
The program enlivens the village with the market of typical products and local crafts, the eagerly awaited arrival of Saint Nicholas with gifts for children and carriage rides, workshops and entertainment for the little ones, chainsaw carving demonstrations, and an exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles. There are also chestnuts and mulled wine offered by the local section of the National Alpini Association, live music, and shows.
Supported by the Municipality of Comeglians, local associations, and businesses, the Saint Nicholas Festival is a precious opportunity to experience the authenticity of Carnia, discover its flavors and crafts, and breathe in the warmth of a mountain community during the most magical time of the year.
