The rustic festival of paparotta in Contrada Pozze, amidst olive trees and pajare
The Sagra Agreste is one of the most iconic events of the Salento summer. It takes place in Corsano, a small town in the Province of Lecce overlooking the Capo di Leuca, and every year it draws thousands of visitors to the picturesque Contrada Pozze. This rural area just outside the town center is defined by its dry-stone walls, ancient olive trees, and traditional stone pajare, the rustic shelters that symbolize the agricultural landscape of lower Salento.
The heart of the festival is the gastronomy of the peasant tradition. The absolute star of the menu is paparotta, a humble dish made with various vegetables and legumes cooked with stale bread. Once the lunch of field laborers, it is now a rarity that Corsano preserves as the last town in Puglia to still actively prepare it. Alongside the paparotta, the stalls offer pittule, grilled meat, homemade pasta, vegetable flans and stews, fried treats, and traditional desserts, all paired with local wines and regional specialties.
The Sagra Agreste is more than just food: the evening comes alive with concerts of pizzica and Salento folk music, the genre that makes the whole of Salento dance. On the stage set up among the olive trees, folk groups and traditional singers take turns, with the ronda (circle dance) and dancing continuing late into the night in an authentic and captivating atmosphere.
The setting is the Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca and Bosco di Tricase Regional Natural Park, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic coast in Salento. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Corsano with the patronage of the City of Corsano and the collaboration of local associations and entities. Admission is free, and the festival is designed for families, curious visitors, and fans of folk traditions who want to rediscover the flavors and rhythms of the most authentic Salento.
The Sagra Agreste of Corsano is highly anticipated for the summer of 2026, confirming its usual appointment on August 13th in Contrada Pozze. Organized by the Pro Loco Corsano, the event renews its formula, blending tastings of rustic traditions—with paparotta as the signature dish—and an evening of folk music and Salento pizzica.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including artists and schedules, will be announced by the Pro Loco on official channels in the weeks leading up to the event. As always, admission is free.
The Sagra Agreste is traditionally held on August 13th starting in the evening (from approximately 7:00 PM).
