Gourmet festival hosted by the parish choir in the village square of San Giacomo, Val di Vizze
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
's Kropfenradl is a traditional culinary event held in the hamlet of San Giacomo (St. Jakob), in the municipality of Val di Vizze/Pfitsch, South Tyrol (province of Bolzano). Organized by the San Giacomo parish choir (Kirchenchor St. Jakob), the event brings the village's Dorfplatz to life for a day, featuring stalls serving specialties prepared according to ancient valley recipes.
The stars of the festival are the typical fried pastries of the Pfitschtal valley: the Pfitscher Kipfl, the original golden and fragrant Krapfen of the valley, which give the event its name ('s Kropfenradl). Alongside these sweet treats, you will find Tirschtla, fried dough pockets served with two fillings: spinach or cabbage (sauerkraut). These dishes belong to the humble, rustic cuisine of South Tyrol, once prepared in mountain farmhouses and now primarily associated with village festivals and markets.
More than just a large tourist attraction, 's Kropfenradl is an authentic village festival, created by the community, for the community. Proceeds support the activities of the parish choir, which uses this initiative to blend culinary tradition with the choral and religious life of the village. For those who want to ensure they get a taste of the specialties, it is possible to pre-order dishes the day before by calling 335 6973027. In case of bad weather, the festival is not cancelled but moves inside the San Giacomo school building.
San Giacomo is one of the hamlets in the scattered municipality of Val di Vizze/Pfitsch, nestled in the valley of the same name in the Wipptal region, not far from Vipiteno/Sterzing. It is a mountain area with an unspoiled alpine landscape, ideal for hiking and walking, where culinary and choral traditions remain a living part of the local identity. Attending 's Kropfenradl means discovering a genuine corner of South Tyrol far from the most crowded tourist routes.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet announced the official date for the 2026 edition of 's Kropfenradl.
