Love and memories in the alleys of the Arab-Norman village of Sutera
The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is a national initiative promoted by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, which, on a single evening in June, makes the hearts of over 230 small historic centers across the peninsula beat in unison. Among them is Sutera, a jewel of central Sicily in the province of Caltanissetta, a village perched at the foot of Mount San Paolino with its characteristic Arab-Norman districts of Rabato and Rabatello.
The theme of the edition is "Love for memories", a choice that finds a particularly authentic setting in Sutera: the village guards an invaluable heritage of traditions, stories, and memories passed down from generation to generation. The evening begins with the welcoming of visitors in the historic center and an emotional walk through alleys, courtyards, and picturesque corners, accompanied by the "Memories of love" segment, featuring stories and testimonies about the affections and traditions of the Sutera community.
The gastronomic and musical heart of the evening features a tasting of "li maccarruna di li ziti", the famous dish symbolic of the Sutera wedding tradition, long associated with the town's wedding banquets. The festival is enlivened by the "Sirinati d'Amuri", moments of music and serenades in the spirit of the most authentic Sicilian folk tradition.
The most anticipated moment is "La vasata all'ammuccìuni", the traditional and evocative kiss under the arch, which seals the evening with the presentation of a commemorative parchment to all couples and participants. A simple and romantic gesture that turns the Romantic Night of Sutera into an indelible memory.
By joining the initiative as a member of the Association, Sutera showcases its charm as an inland Sicilian village: stone houses, stairways, the cliff of Mount San Paolino, and an atmosphere suspended in time. An ideal destination for those seeking slow and authentic tourism, far from mass routes, in the heart of the province of Caltanissetta.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night was held in Sutera on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as part of the 11th national edition dedicated to the theme "Love for memories", with over 230 Italian villages taking center stage on the same night.
The Sutera program kicked off at 8:00 PM with the welcoming of visitors and an emotional walk through the alleys of the historic center, accompanied by the "Memories of love" segment. From 9:00 PM, the focus shifted to the tasting of "li maccarruna di li ziti", a dish symbolic of the village's wedding tradition, and the folk serenades "Sirinati d'Amuri". The grand finale featured "La vasata all'ammuccìuni", the kiss under the arch, with the presentation of a commemorative parchment to the participants.
