Frogs, the queen of Rivis' table

In Rivis al Tagliamento, a hamlet of the municipality of Sedegliano in the province of Udine, one of the most beloved festivals in the Friulian plain has been celebrated for decades: the Frog Festival. The absolute stars are the frogs, served traditionally fried and stewed, a dish rooted in the humble cuisine of the wetland areas along the Tagliamento river.

Traditional cuisine for four weekends

For four weekends in May, the large festival tents fill with gourmets. In addition to frogs, the kitchen offers squid, spit-roasted chicken, French fries, gnocchi, beans with onion, cheese, frico, Milanese cutlet, and hamburgers, accompanied by local wines and draft beer. The kitchen opens for dinner every Saturday and for lunch and dinner every Sunday and on May 1st.

Music, orchestras, and tribute bands

The Frog Festival is also famous for its rich musical program: big dance orchestras from the Friulian and Venetian tradition alternate on the covered dance floor with live concerts and tribute bands, from Pink Floyd to Amy Winehouse. There are also days dedicated to families and children, motorcycle and Vespa rallies, and special events dedicated to animals.

Rivis, Sedegliano, and the Tagliamento

The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Rivis al Tagliamento with the support of the Municipality of Sedegliano and the work of numerous volunteers. The village is located along the course of the Tagliamento river, in a landscape of countryside and wetlands that forms the natural backdrop for one of the most distinctive festivals in the Middle Friuli region.
