The Carnival polenta feast by the Alpini Group and the Pro Loco, blending tradition and conviviality
In Rivalba, a small municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled in the Chieri hills, Carnival is not about grand allegorical floats or masquerade parades, but something more intimate and deeply felt: a day of conviviality that gathers the entire village around the table. The absolute star is the polentata, a hearty polenta with stew prepared and served by the Rivalba Alpini Group in collaboration with the Pro Loco Rivalbese and the municipal administration.
The event takes place in the Via Sotti multipurpose hall, the heart of local festivities, which transforms into a grand celebration space for the occasion. The most anticipated moment is lunch: steaming polenta with stew, cooked with the care and experience of the 'Penne Nere' (Alpini), evokes the tradition of great community gatherings, where food becomes an opportunity to reconnect and strengthen the bonds of a small village. It is a tried-and-tested formula that, edition after edition, continues to enjoy great success and fill the hall with people of all ages.
After lunch, the Rivalba Carnival comes alive with the joy of the little ones. The afternoon is dedicated to children, with entertainment, games, and activities designed especially for them, turning the hall into a space of color, magic, and fun. It is a wonderful way to pass on the simple pleasure of village festivals and community spirit to the new generations.
Rivalba is located in Piedmont, within the Metropolitan City of Turin, in a lush, hilly landscape just a few kilometers from Chieri and Turin. Festivals like the Rivalba Carnival tell the story of the soul of small Piedmontese towns, where volunteer associations—led by the Alpini and Pro Loco—are the engine of social life, keeping alive a tradition of hospitality, good food, and human warmth. Participating in the Carnival polenta feast means discovering this genuine and authentic side of Piedmont.
