The village of Riparbella transforms into a palette of flowers and scents
Every spring, Riparbella, a small hilltop village in the province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany, transforms into a vast, sprawling garden. Ripafiorita — Village in Bloom is the floral festival that has been bringing the historic center to life for several years with artistic floral carpets, themed displays, and installations scattered across squares and alleys. Over time, it has become one of the most beloved spring events in the Val di Cecina area, attracting visitors from across the Pisan and Livorno coasts.
The heart of the festival lies in the infiorate (floral carpets) and floral installations created along the village streets. Every corner tells a story: from the Rose Garden to the Square of Tales with its suspended umbrellas and light displays, from the Ancient Heart of Riparbella—dedicated to the town's symbols and identity—to the Flight of Beauty, a large floral butterfly representing transformation and hope. There is also the Madonna delle Grazie Corner, dedicated to the "Care of Creation," which blends Marian devotion with a respect for nature.
Among the most anticipated events is the "Ripafiorita — Village in Bloom" competition, open to residents, which awards the most beautiful and flowery balcony or terrace: a friendly rivalry that engages the entire community and helps dress every home in the center with color.
In addition to the floral displays, the two-day event offers floral and craft markets, guided tours among flowers and murals, workshops, and the Bimbolandia area with games and inflatables for children, as well as live music and DJ sets. The gastronomy deserves special mention: the Pro Loco stands offer the great classics of Tuscan country cooking, from zuppa alla riparbellina (local bread soup) to tripe, wild boar sausages, mixed grills, and even sandwiches featuring local RiparChianina beef, followed by cantuccini cookies with vin santo.
Ripafiorita is organized by the Pro Loco Riparbella with the support of the Municipality of Riparbella. To facilitate visitor arrival, a free shuttle service operates from the San Martino area to the town center. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic Tuscan village at its most colorful time of year.
The fifth edition of Ripafiorita confirmed the formula that made the event famous: the village of Riparbella dressed in flowers, with themed installations along the alleys, craft markets, workshops, and plenty of Tuscan gastronomy provided by the Pro Loco. The free shuttle service from San Martino was also confirmed.
Among the floral installations: the Rose Garden, the Square of Tales with suspended umbrellas, The Ancient Heart of Riparbella, The Flight of Beauty (the large floral butterfly), the Smile Corner, the Wine Garden, and the Madonna delle Grazie Corner dedicated to the "Care of Creation."
The award ceremony for the best-flowered balcony, the grand artistic floral carpets of the historic center, and the suspended umbrellas of the Square of Tales are among the most anticipated moments. Don't miss the food stands featuring zuppa alla riparbellina, village grill, and local RiparChianina beef.
Riparbella is located in the hills of the province of Pisa, a short distance from the coast. By car, it can be reached via the SS1 Aurelia (Cecina exit), heading inland. During the event, parking at P4 in Via della Fonte Vecchia is recommended.
Free shuttle from the San Martino area to Piazza Baldasserini (approx. 7-minute ride). Generally active on Saturday afternoon and Sunday until late evening.
Admission to the event is free. The Pro Loco food stands are located at Parco Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa.
Program and details are available on the Pro Loco Riparbella website.
