The Valdichiana Easter pastry festival in the village of Rigomagno
In the charming medieval village of Rigomagno, a hamlet of the Sinalunga municipality in the province of Siena, the Ciambellino Festival comes to life every spring. It is one of the most heartfelt and long-standing events in the Sienese Valdichiana. Organized by the Pro Loco Rigomagno since 1968, the festival is an unmissable appointment for those who want to discover the authenticity of lesser-known Tuscany, made of small villages, handed-down traditions, and genuine hospitality.
The absolute star of the festival is the ciambellino, the typical pastry of the Sienese and Aretine Valdichiana prepared during the Easter period. The traditional recipe calls for local extra virgin olive oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla, butter, liqueur, and anise seedsโsimple ingredients that create a fragrant and aromatic treat. The ciambellino is traditionally enjoyed dipped in vinsanto, coffee with milk, or a cappuccino, and it is the symbol of the rural conviviality of this land.
The festival unfolds over a weekend full of events. Saturday evening kicks off with the Rigomagno Dinner, followed by the inevitable briscola tournament, a classic of Tuscan village festivals. Sunday is the highlight: it starts in the morning with the Vespa rally, continues with an exhibition of Renaissance games, and features the traditional set-menu Rigomagno lunch. In the afternoon, the village comes alive with a performance by the Bettolle Flag-wavers and Drummers Group and an afternoon snack featuring porchetta sandwiches and crรชpes.
Visiting the Ciambellino Festival means immersing yourself in a timeless atmosphere, among the alleys of the village, the scent of freshly baked pastries, and the warmth of a community that has proudly guarded its roots for over fifty years. Rigomagno and Sinalunga, nestled among the rolling hills of the Valdichiana, offer visitors the chance to combine the festival with an itinerary of discovery, exploring medieval history, rural landscapes, and Tuscan cuisine.
The 55th edition of the Rigomagno Ciambellino Festival was held on April 11 and 12, 2026, upholding the tradition of the festival taking place on the first Sunday after Easter. Once again this year, the village in the Sienese Valdichiana welcomed visitors and curious onlookers around its typical pastry, during a weekend marked by gastronomy, games, and folklore.
