Biancorossa Festival - Goose Festival

A village festival in the heart of the Sienese Valdichiana

The Biancorossa Festival - Goose Festival is one of the most deeply rooted and well-attended festivals in Montepulciano Stazione, the valley hamlet of the Municipality of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena. For nearly twenty years, at the end of September, the I Tigli Sports Center on Via Roma transforms into the beating heart of the community: a large, covered, and well-equipped space where families, friends, and visitors from across the Sienese Valdichiana and nearby Umbria gather.

The festival's name combines the red-and-white colors of the organizing association, ASD La Chianina, with the specialty that has made the event famous: the ocio, or goose in the local dialect. It is precisely around this animal, a symbol of Tuscan peasant cuisine, that the entire festival menu revolves.

Gastronomy: goose and Chianina tradition

The true star is the food. Every evening, the food stands offer typical goose-based dishes and recipes from the Chianina tradition, ranging from pasta dishes with goose ragù to roasts and boiled meats. Alongside these local specialties, the wood-fired pizza, prepared on-site and beloved by the younger crowd, is a must.

The stands open every evening from 7:30 PM, while lunch is also served at midday during the fair days.

Music and dance evenings

After dinner, the festivities continue with dance evenings: from 9:30 PM, guests dance under the marquee to the sounds of ballroom and 'liscio' orchestras, a deeply felt tradition in central Tuscany. Each evening features a different orchestra, ensuring live music throughout the event.

The Fiera al Ponte Lunch

A highlight of the second part of the festival is the Fiera al Ponte Lunch, held on the final Sunday and Monday at the association's stands. It coincides with the ancient Fiera al Ponte, a historic village fair in Montepulciano Stazione, and offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the full traditional menu at midday.

A volunteer-led event

The festival is entirely managed by the volunteers of ASD La Chianina, under the patronage of the Municipality of Montepulciano. Proceeds support the association's activities: participating in the Biancorossa Festival also means supporting the social and sporting life of the hamlet. It is an authentically popular event, far from the typical tourist circuits, where you can taste the true cuisine of the Sienese Valdichiana in a convivial and family atmosphere.
