Three days dedicated to ricotta and cheeses from the Mortegliano Social Dairy
Every May, Mortegliano, in the Udine plain, dedicates three days to the ricotta and cheeses of its Social Dairy, one of the most established dairy cooperatives in Friuli. The Ricotta Festival, now in its nineteenth edition, is both a village festival and a showcase of local dairy excellence, capable of uniting producers, schools, and visitors around a simple and iconic product.
The heart of the event is the guided tours of the dairy, which allow visitors to discover up close how ricotta, Montasio, and other cheeses from the Social Dairy are made. Alongside the tours, there is the farm animal exhibition, farm visits, show cooking with chefs, and the presentation of school projects, in a journey that brings adults and children closer to the world of agriculture. Stalls offer traditional dishes, from pasta for children to cheese-based specialties.
The evenings alternate between DJ sets, magic shows, comedy, and live 60s-70s music, culminating in the highly anticipated final tombolissima (bingo game), with a grand prize of 50 kg of cheese. It is the festival that inaugurates the summer event season in Mortegliano, a town also famous for hosting the tallest bell tower in Italy, a soaring symbol over the Friulian plain.
Organized in the territory of the Municipality of Mortegliano (Province of Udine), the Ricotta Festival is an event that promotes short supply chains and Friulian cooperative culture, offering visitors an authentic taste of the central Friuli countryside.
The 19th edition of the Ricotta Festival returns to Mortegliano from May 15 to 17, 2026, with a rich program of events dedicated to the products of the Social Dairy. Featuring guided dairy tours, a farm animal exhibition, show cooking, magic shows, and musical evenings, the festival offers three days of taste and tradition for the whole family, culminating in the grand lottery with a top prize of 50 kg of cheese.
