Over 150 years of fair tradition in Cervignano
Some events measure their history in centuries. The Ancient Saint Martin's Fair in Cervignano del Friuli is one of them: a traditional fair whose origins date back to the era when Bassa Friulana was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the result of an imperial concession. With its long continuity โ over 150 editions โ it is one of the most deeply felt identity events in the territory, organized by the Pro Loco Cervignano del Friuli APS.
The fair maintains the character of large autumn village fairs: the streets and squares of Cervignano fill with stalls selling all kinds of goods, typical product stands, exhibition booths, and demonstrations. It is the time when the community gathers in the streets, amidst shopping, encounters, and the crisp atmosphere of the first cold days.
Alongside the market, food stands managed by local associations offer the flavors of Friulian cuisine, while concerts and musical events liven up the evenings. One of the most beloved attractions, especially by families, is the large funfair housed in a heated tent, allowing visitors to enjoy the rides sheltered from the November weather.
Cervignano del Friuli is the main center of eastern Bassa Friulana, a crossroads between Udine, the lagoon of Grado, and the Slovenian border. The Saint Martin's Fair, linked to the saint whom peasant tradition celebrates on November 11th, is the ideal opportunity to discover this part of Friuli and experience a popular festival with deep roots.
The 153rd edition of the Ancient Saint Martin's Fair is expected in November 2026, following the tradition that places the event around the feast day of Saint Martin (November 11th). The fair confirms its established formula of stalls, exhibition stands, gastronomy, musical events, and the large indoor funfair.
The exact dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by Pro Loco Cervignano del Friuli in the weeks prior. Based on recent editions, the fair usually spans several days in mid-November and includes:
