The best tordelli in Versilia, blending a patronal feast with music in Retignano
The Retignano Tordello Festival is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the summer in Versilia. It takes place in Retignano, a charming little village in the Municipality of Stazzema, in the Province of Lucca (Tuscany), nestled on the slopes of the Apuan Alps just a few kilometers from the sea. Here, amidst stone houses and mountain vistas, the Retignano Recreational Sports Club (CRS) has been organizing this festival for decades, attracting visitors from across the region and nearby seaside resorts.
The festival's signature dish is the tordello, the traditional stuffed pasta of the Versilia and Lucca area, considered by many to be the finest in all of Versilia. Served strictly with meat sauce, it is prepared according to a homemade recipe passed down through generations in the village. Alongside the tordelli, the stalls offer grilled meats, side dishes, and homemade desserts, creating a hearty menu that showcases the rustic cuisine of the Apuan hinterland.
The festival is more than just food: it coincides with the patronal feast of Saints Peter and Paul and hosts the Retignano in Festival, a singing competition that brings the village to life. The evenings are filled with live music, dancing, and cultural gatherings, turning the small town into a meeting point for the entire community and the many vacationers coming up from the coast.
The event spans two weekends between late June and early July, with food stalls open every evening from 7:00 PM and, on holidays, also for lunch by reservation. Everything takes place at the CRS facilities on Via XI Febbraio in Retignano. Admission is free: you only pay for what you consume. It is an ideal stop for those vacationing in Versilia who want to discover the authentic, mountainous side of this corner of Tuscany.
