The summer literary festival in the gardens of the Palazzo Mediceo in Seravezza
As summer arrives, Libri a Palazzo returns, the cultural festival that brings the courtyard and gardens of the Palazzo Mediceo of Seravezza, in the province of Lucca, to life in the heart of the Tuscan Versilia. Promoted by the Sirio Giannini Municipal Library, the event offers a series of afternoon meetings dedicated to literature, history, and contemporary narrative, set in one of the most evocative locations in Tuscany.
The Palazzo Mediceo, commissioned in the 16th century by Cosimo I de' Medici and now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Medici Villas and Gardens, offers an exceptional backdrop: its garden becomes, evening after evening, an open-air living room where the pleasure of reading blends with the beauty of the setting and the cool summer air.
The program, which runs from June to September, alternates between different genres and voices: from local historical memory to music, from crime novels to nature writing, and from dramatic readings to art discussions. Each event focuses on a book and its creators, with authors, editors, and scholars engaging with the public in an informal and participatory atmosphere.
During the meetings, a bookstore—often the local cartolibreria Il Cantone—is frequently present, allowing attendees to purchase volumes and have them signed by the authors, making the festival a perfect opportunity for direct interaction between writers and readers.
Libri a Palazzo has become a staple of the Seravezza summer, widely followed by both local residents and the many tourists visiting Versilia during the summer months. The meetings are designed for a broad audience, with moments dedicated to children and families, and represent a way to experience the Municipality of Seravezza and its cultural heritage beyond the usual beach-focused tourist paths.
The winning formula combines cultural depth with the charm of a historic location: a proposal that enhances the bond between the Versilia territory, its library, and the great literary and artistic tradition of Tuscany.
The 2026 edition of Libri a Palazzo runs from Wednesday, June 17th, through September, with meetings held primarily in the late afternoon in the gardens of the Palazzo Mediceo in Seravezza. The festival, promoted by the Sirio Giannini Municipal Library, alternates between local historical memory, music, art, fiction, and nature writing. The closing event in September is dedicated to the Palazzo Mediceo and a literary presentation on Filippo Lippi. Admission to all events is free.
