The historic youth football tournament of the Maremma in Campagnatico
The Renzo Trovò Football Tournament is a historic fixture in the youth football calendar of the Grosseto province. Hosted in Campagnatico, a small hilltop village in the Tuscan Maremma, the tournament takes place at the Mario Galli Sports Centre and attracts numerous sports clubs from across Tuscany every year, particularly from the Grosseto, Livorno, and Tyrrhenian coast areas.
The tournament is named after Renzo Trovò, a figure dear to the Maremma football community and linked to the history of Grosseto. The memory of the young player is at the heart of every edition: Renzo's father, a former captain of Grosseto, is often present at the award ceremonies to personally present the accolades to the young players, creating a deeply moving and sporting moment. This blend of remembrance, tradition, and passion for youth football is what makes the Trovò much more than just a tournament.
The event is reserved for youth sector categories, specifically Under 12 and Under 13 (known as Esordienti). The pitches of Campagnatico host teams representing the excellence of the Tuscan youth system: participants have included clubs such as Grosseto, Argentario, Venturina, Sporting Cecina, Invictasauro, Atletico Piombino, Porto Azzurro, Badesse Monteriggioni, and many others. Individual awards are presented in each category for the best goalkeeper, best player, and top scorer.
The Trovò is about more than just sport. During the tournament, the Mario Galli Sports Centre becomes a meeting point for the entire Campagnatico community: a food stall is open for refreshments between matches, and the evenings are enlivened by live music and DJ sets. It is a wonderful opportunity for families, fans, and enthusiasts to enjoy a fun-filled weekend together under the Maremma sky.
Located in the province of Grosseto, in Tuscany, Campagnatico is a medieval village nestled in the Maremma hills, just a few kilometres from the Ombrone valley. The natural setting and the genuine hospitality of the village provide the perfect backdrop for an event that, edition after edition, has become a symbol of the sporting passion in this corner of Tuscany.
