The Giudicarie stop of the Trentino-Alto Adige Regional Sacred Music Festival, held at the Santa Maria Assunta Parish Church
The Regional Sacred Music Festival of Trentino-Alto Adige stops every year in Tione di Trento, the capital of the Giudicarie Valleys in the Province of Trento, with a concert hosted in the Santa Maria Assunta Parish Church. The Tione event has become a consolidated tradition: every year, the festival brings one or more evenings of great sacred music to the Giudicarie area, in collaboration with the Giudicarie Music School, the Municipality of Tione, and the Trentino Choir Federation.
Founded in 1972, with the inaugural concert in the Collegiate Church of Arco on May 19th, the Festival is the oldest concert association entirely dedicated to sacred music still active in Italy. The first evening featured the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, conducted by Ettore Gracis. Today, the festival is organized by the Regional Sacred Music Festival ETS, a regional body that brings together representatives from the provinces and municipalities of Trento and Bolzano on an equal footing. Every spring, from April to June, it offers dozens of concerts in churches, parish churches, and cathedrals throughout Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, featuring professional and amateur ensembles as well as prestigious national and international guests.
The Tione concert brings different repertoires to the Giudicarie area each year: from the great Viennese classicism, with works by Mozart for choir, orchestra, and soloists, to the masterpieces of the Italian Baroque, such as the sacred music of Alessandro Scarlatti performed with period instruments. The Santa Maria Assunta Parish Church, with its intimate acoustics, is the ideal setting for these performances, which often involve local choirs and students alongside specialized ensembles.
Tione di Trento is the main hub of the Giudicarie Valleys, at the crossroads of the routes leading up to the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Attending a sacred music concert in the parish church means combining the listening of great music with the discovery of a mountain territory rich in history, churches frescoed by the Baschenis school, and choral tradition. The festival, with free admission, brings the Giudicarie public closer to the great masterpieces of European sacred music.
The Tione stop of the Festival combines the listening of great sacred music with the discovery of Tione di Trento and Trentino-Alto Adige, amidst valleys, mountains, and ancient parish churches.
The 55th edition of the Regional Sacred Music Festival of Trentino-Alto Adige stopped in Tione di Trento on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 8:30 PM, in the Santa Maria Assunta Parish Church, as one of the opening concerts of the festival.
The program featured the "Messa per il Santissimo Natale" by Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725), presented in the reconstruction of the Catholic Mass according to the Tridentine rite, with the Proprium parts entrusted to Gregorian chant. The performance was entrusted to the Vox Cordis Choir and the Labirinti Armonici Ensemble, with Andrea Ferroni (concertmaster violin), Stefano Favretto (violin), Ivo Brigadoi (cello), Mario Filippini (violone), and Costanza Leuzzi (harpsichord), under the direction of Marco Ozbic.
The concert, with free admission, was organized in collaboration with the Trentino Choir Federation, the Municipality of Tione, and the Giudicarie Music School. The same program had been performed the previous day, Sunday, April 26, in the parish church of Mezzano.
