The alpine pasture festival along the Ratschinger Almenweg trail
The Ratschinger Almenfest is one of the most beloved alpine celebrations in the South Tyrolean summer. It takes place in the municipality of Racines (Ratschings), in the Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It brings together in a single day of celebration the alpine pastures that dot the famous Ratschinger Almenweg, the mountain hut trail in the sunny Racines Valley, at the foot of the Stubai Alps.
The heart of the event is a hike from hut to hut: along the path, which starts at the top station of the Racines-Giovo cable car, visitors encounter five festive mountain huts — Kalcheralm, Rinneralm, Summit Mountain Club, Wasserfaller Alm, and Klammalm. At each stop, you can enjoy traditional South Tyrolean cuisine and listen to live music from folk groups and local bands, in the typical atmosphere of Hüttengaudi, the joyful spirit of mountain huts.
A fun tradition accompanies the festival: the stamp rally (Stempelpass), available from 7:00 AM at the valley station. Those who collect at least four stamps along the route are eligible to participate in the prize draw, which takes place from 3:00 PM at the Ratschingser Stub'n. It is a playful way to encourage both adults and children to explore the entire alpine hut itinerary.
The Ratschinger Almenweg is a scenic trail with no steep inclines, making it suitable for families with children. For the return trip, a shuttle service is available from Flading to take visitors back to the valley. The combination of pristine nature, authentic gastronomy, and music makes the Almenfest an unmissable summer appointment in the Racines Valley.
Now in its eighteenth edition, the Ratschinger Almenfest promotes the culture of South Tyrolean alpine pastures and the deep bond between the Racines community and its mountains. The event is organized by the Racines Tourist Association (Ratschings Tourismus) and represents an authentic showcase of the territory's gastronomic and musical traditions, set in a stunning alpine landscape.
The eighteenth edition of the Ratschinger Almenfest was held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the Racines Valley. Along the Ratschinger Almenweg, five festive alpine huts — Kalcheralm, Rinneralm, Summit Mountain Club, Wasserfaller Alm, and Klammalm — offered traditional South Tyrolean dishes and musical entertainment.
The stamp rally was available from 7:00 AM at the valley station: with at least four stamps, participants could join the prize draw, awarded from 3:00 PM at the Ratschingser Stub'n. The route, suitable for families and without steep inclines, was served by a shuttle for the return from Flading.
Racines can be reached by car from the A22 motorway exit of Vipiteno/Sterzing, continuing towards the Racines Valley. The starting point is the Racines-Giovo (Ratschings-Jaufen) cable car, which conveniently takes you to the starting altitude of the alpine hut trail.
The stamp rally is available from 7:00 AM at the valley station. The prize-giving ceremony is held from 3:00 PM at the Ratschingser Stub'n. A shuttle service is active for the return from Flading.
