The vertical trail of the Cervo Valley, from Naiasco to Alpe Campello
The Rampia Campel is one of the most iconic mountain races in the Biella area: a non-competitive vertical trail held every June in the municipality of Campiglia Cervo, in Piedmont, within the stunning Cervo Valley. Organized with passion by the Pro Loco of Riabella, with the patronage of the Municipality of Campiglia Cervo, the event attracts trail running and mountain enthusiasts who love to test themselves against pure incline.
The route is as short as it is demanding: just 3.5 kilometers with 800 meters of positive elevation gain, entirely uphill. The start is set in Naiasco, in the Bogna hamlet, near the ancient stone bridge crossing the Cervo stream, along the provincial road 100 just after Passobreve. From here, the path climbs the "Crest" mule track (trail E12) up to the village of Riabella, which is crossed entirely, before continuing towards Alpe Campello along the E10 trail, near the Rosazza Tunnel.
This is a technical, dirt, and rugged terrain that requires mountain experience and a minimum of specific training. The maximum time to complete the race is three hours, with a "sweeper" closing the group to ensure the safety of all participants.
Rampia Campel is not an isolated race: it represents the second event of the Trittico dla Bürsch, the mountain running circuit of the Cervo Valley curated by the Pro Loco of Riabella. The triptych also includes the #distacalacrava RUN, a spring mini-trail held in Campiglia Cervo, and the Cervo Valley Alpini Group Mountain Race, scheduled for August 1st. Points are awarded based on placement (15 points for first, 10 for second, 8 for third, and so on down to 1 point for all finishers), with a final prize for those who complete all three events.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the Rampia Campel is above all a village festival that celebrates the alpine identity of the Cervo Valley, historically inhabited by the "Bürsch," the valley's construction emigrants. Upon arrival at Alpe Campello, participants find a refreshment point with local products, set against a backdrop of pastures and views of the Biellese mountains. The presence of medical staff with a defibrillator along the course completes the organization, which is attentive to safety in a high-mountain environment.
The 2026 edition of the Rampia Campel vertical trail was held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Campiglia Cervo, with a start at 9:00 AM from the Naiasco area. The 3.5 km and 800-meter positive elevation gain route, which climbs from Naiasco to Riabella along the E12 trail and continues to Alpe Campello on the E10, was confirmed.
The race, organized by the Pro Loco of Riabella, served as the second event of the 2026 Trittico dla Bürsch, following the #distacalacrava RUN in late March and preceding the Cervo Valley Alpini Group Mountain Race on August 1st.
Campiglia Cervo can be reached from Biella by traveling up the Cervo Valley along the SP100. The start is in Naiasco, in the Bogna hamlet, just after Passobreve. A car is the most practical means of transport; parking is available in the start area.
Pre-registration is recommended a few days before the race (reduced fee, approx. 7-10 €); registration on the day at the meeting point from 7:30 AM (full fee, approx. 10-12 €). For registration and information: [email protected].
Technical and steep route: trail shoes, mountain experience, and clothing suitable for the altitude are recommended. Refreshments are available at the finish line at Alpe Campello.
