Theatre, music, and environmental art in the heart of the Colline Metallifere
The Radicondoli Festival is one of Tuscany's most beloved and enduring theatrical events. Since 1986, it has enlivened the small town of Radicondoliโa village perched among the Colline Metallifere in the province of Sienaโevery summer, turning it into an authentic open-air theatre for two weeks. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 40th edition, a milestone that confirms its ability to blend artistic research with deep local roots, operating outside the mainstream circuits while maintaining a high-calibre programme.
The 2026 edition, scheduled from 18 to 31 July under the artistic direction of Massimo Luconi, revolves around the theme "Lascia che sia il vento" (Let it be the wind), inspired by the verses of poet Margherita Guidacci. It is a dense and ambitious programme: 17 companies, 26 titles, 8 national premieres, and 28 performances in total, spread across the centre of Radicondoli, the hamlet of Belforte, and the natural spaces of the municipal area.
The 40th anniversary features prominent names from the Italian scene. Highly anticipated events include Marco Paolini with the ecological comedy Antenati, the Marcido Marcidorjs performing Jean Genet's The Maids, Laura Marinoni in Mother Courage, Mariangela D'Abbraccio portraying Billie Holiday, Elena Arvigo with Ritsos' Ismene, and Paola Pitagora and Fernando Maraghini with Vai pure. Music is also a highlight, featuring a concert by Peppe Voltarelli, a vocal recital by Sabina Martin, Flo with a female choir dedicated to the theme of migration, and various projects bridging singer-songwriter traditions, jazz, and cinematic soundscapes.
An integral part of the festival is Paesaggi Contemporanei, an environmental art project curated by Fabio Gori, which opens on 18 July. Installations, sculptures, and photographs by Italian and international artistsโincluding Moussa Traore, Giuliano Tomaino, Luca Gilli, and Antonello Ghezzi, alongside young artists under 35โengage with the village and the Sienese countryside, transforming the hills into an open-air gallery. A special tribute to Margherita Guidacci will take place on 29 July at the Boschetto al pianetto, featuring a soundscape architecture designed specifically for the landscape.
Performances take place in the village's most evocative spots: Piazza della Collegiata, the main open-air stage; the Teatro dei Risorti; the Church of Santa Caterina; the Pieve vecchia della Madonna; Palazzo Bizzarini; and the spaces within the hamlet of Belforte. The festival maintains a strong focus on sustainability, with minimalist set designs integrated into the village's architecture.
Visiting the Radicondoli Festival means discovering an authentic corner of Tuscany, amidst medieval villages, the volcanic landscapes of the Colline Metallifere, and the hospitality of a small town that has placed culture at the heart of its identity for forty years. It is an experience that combines great theatre, music, poetry, and contemporary art within a natural setting of rare beauty.

Radicondoli is located in the south-western part of the province of Siena. By car, it can be reached from Siena (approx. 40 km) or from the Florence-Siena highway by taking the exit towards the Colline Metallifere; the nearest train stations are Siena and Colle di Val d'Elsa, from which you can continue by car. The most convenient airport is Florence.
Information on tickets, season passes, and reservations is available on the official website radicondoliarte.org on the ticketing page. Booking is recommended, given the limited capacity of some venues.
We recommend arriving early to explore the village and the Paesaggi Contemporanei art trail. For those staying overnight, agritourisms and accommodation facilities are widely available throughout the municipal area and in the surrounding Val d'Elsa.
