About Radeiner Herbstgenuss

Radeiner Herbstgenuss is an autumn festival of flavors that brings the mountain village of Radein (part of the Aldein municipality in the Bolzano province) to life. A sophisticated take on the traditional Törggelen, this event invites you to stroll from one farm to the next along a true 'gourmet trail,' savoring dumplings, charcoal-grilled roasts, polenta cooked in copper cauldrons, and mountain desserts, all accompanied by three-part choirs, alpine horns, and the rhythmic cracking of the Goaslschnöller whips, all set against the backdrop of the Weißhorn.

An autumn festival in the heart of the Dolomites

The Radeiner Herbstgenuss is a gourmet event that transforms the small village of Radein, part of the Aldein municipality, into a long, open-air gourmet trail every autumn. Located in the Bassa Atesina region on the Regglberg plateau, in the southernmost part of South Tyrol, it sits just a stone's throw from the famous Bletterbach Geopark, a UNESCO World Heritage canyon that reveals millions of years of Earth's history.

More than just a standard Törggelen

The event was born as a sophisticated variation of the classic Törggelen, the South Tyrolean autumn tradition of pairing new wine with rustic farm specialties. Here, the ritual is elevated: upon arrival, visitors receive a map with the program and several vouchers, then set off on foot between the farms and food stations scattered throughout the village, tasting one course after another in a convivial journey that blends quality cuisine, hiking, and scenery.

The gourmet stations

Each stop offers traditional dishes prepared by local farmers and innkeepers. Specialties found along the way include:

  • Knödeltris (trio of dumplings) with stone pine butter and grated mountain cheese;
  • The Hofburger from the Mansuethof farm with crispy rustic potatoes;
  • Schopfbraten (shoulder roast) cooked over charcoal, served with polenta prepared in a copper cauldron by the Schützen on the Festplatz;
  • Meat from the Radein pasture ox (Radeiner Weideochse);
  • Mountain desserts such as Zirmertorte (stone pine cake) and Apfelschnitten (apple slices).

The farms hosting the festival—including the Nigglhof, Mansuethof, and Isihütte—welcome visitors with zero-kilometer products, local honey, and regional wines.

Mountain music and tradition

The soundtrack of the day is provided by alpine folklore: three-part choirs and alpine horn players perform in front of the Nigglhof, while the Goaslschnöller crack their whips in a spectacular ritual beneath the Weißhorn. It is an authentic immersion into South Tyrolean mountain peasant culture, far from mass tourism.

A territory to discover

The Radeiner Herbstgenuss is also the perfect opportunity to explore the Aldein and Radein plateau during its most evocative season, when the forests ignite with autumn colors. The gourmet walk can be extended toward the Bletterbach Geopark along the E5 trail, starting from the Radein GEOMuseum: an experience that combines fine dining, tradition, and nature in one of the most authentic corners of the Bolzano province.
