The mountain Advent market in Tires al Catinaccio, at the foot of the Catinaccio massif
The Bergler Advent is the charming Advent market of the small village of Tires al Catinaccio (Tiers am Rosengarten), in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. Set in the village square at the foot of the rugged Catinaccio peaks, this mountain market offers an authentic, village-scale Christmas experience, quite different from the larger markets in South Tyrolean cities like Bolzano or Bressanone.
On select December afternoons, illuminated stalls fill the village center with the aroma of mulled wine, hot tea, and local gastronomic specialties. It is the perfect opportunity to warm up with a steaming cup while admiring the panorama of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which surrounds the Tires valley. The intimate and genuine atmosphere of a South Tyrolean mountain village is the true heart of this event.
The market's offerings include traditional savory dishes, such as goulash soup, and seasonal sweet specialties, including Zelten (traditional Christmas fruit bread) and wafers. The stalls also feature handmade gift ideas, particularly wooden and wool items crafted by local artisans.
Bergler Advent is also designed for children: the village library organizes readings of Christmas stories, making the afternoon even more magical. The initiative is promoted by the Tires al Catinaccio Tourist Association.
The event is held in the main square of Tires al Catinaccio, a municipality located in the Alpe di Siusi–Sciliar area, easily accessible from the Isarco Valley. Admission is free, and the event takes place in the late afternoon, as the village lights up for Advent.
Bergler Advent is a small village market rather than a large city event, which is exactly why it retains its authentic character and family-friendly scale. Those looking for a Christmas experience away from the crowds, immersed in the tranquility of the Catinaccio valleys, will find the ideal atmosphere here to enjoy the South Tyrolean Advent in its most genuine form, amidst tradition, mountain gastronomy, and local hospitality.
The Tires al Catinaccio Advent market returns in 2026 with three dates: Saturday, December 12, Saturday, December 19, and Saturday, December 26, 2026. The village square comes alive each afternoon from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Visitors can enjoy local gastronomic specialties, from goulash soup to Christmas Zelten, accompanied by mulled wine and hot tea. The stalls offer handcrafted gift ideas in wood and wool, while the village library organizes Christmas story readings for children. Free admission.
